Chocolate Matcha Challah

Ingredients for dough

  • The Challah Box
  • Culinary grade Matcha Powder (~.75 tbsp per loaf)

Ingredients for dairy free chocolate filling (can make this with nutella or cinnamon sugar filling too!)

  • 1/3 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1/3 cup Coconut Sugar
  • 1/3 cup Coconut Oil


  1. Add the match powder to your dry ingredient mixture
  2. Follow The Challah Box steps 2-10
  3. Make your filling:
    1. Melt the coconut oil and add it too the cocoa powder sugar mixture *If you let this stand it will start to thicken, mix with a spoon to make it spreadable again
  4. Make 1 large strands of matcha dough, roll each into a flat rectangle
  5. Spread your chocolate mixture in the middle of the rectangle and roll it lengthwise so you now have a sealed strand of dough
  6. Cut the strand in half lengthwise so you now have 2 strands with exposed chocolate
  7. Twist each strand around the other forming a ring as you go. Try to keep the chocolate edges facing up.
  8. Set on your parchment lined baking sheet and egg wash gently.
  9. Let rise for 45 mins in a warm spot
  10. Egg wash again
  11. Bake 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees
