Why Challah.
Challah is a delicious, traditional Jewish bread that is typically enjoyed on Shabbat by families around the world. Nowadays, challah is so popular for its fluffy, unique texture and can be bought in stores widely, so you may be asking yourself, why should I make my own challah?
We live in a fast-paced world where immediate satisfaction is the norm. The challah baking process is distinct in that it requires time and presence. It’s a chance to slow down and disconnect in order to reconnect.
Baking challah is a perfect activity to do with your girlfriends or your kids. There are endless variations for shapes, toppings, flavors, and fillings. Did you know that you can stuff challah with anything from Nutella to garlic confit? The Challah Box provides a perfected and tested classic recipe that can serve as the base for all kinds of experimentation.
Plus, the smell of a freshly baked loaf of challah is insane. And the French toast you get to make for Sunday brunch - too good! Homemade challah is just better.

Our story.
My name is Ilana, and I’m a physician and mom to identical twin girls. Here’s what I’m not: a baker.
I started making challah after my dad passed away suddenly in 2019. My synagogue held a challah baking event in his memory where a group of 50 women gathered together to mix, knead and braid. Physically, I left with challah, but mentally I walked away with so much more. I felt a deep sense of community, purpose, and love. I knew that I wanted to take that feeling and box it up. Enter Ariel, my best friend since age 8 from Camp Chipinaw.
I’m Ariel. My background is in creative storytelling and brand identity. For the past few years I’ve worked as an art director at a marketing agency in NYC. When Ilana called me with this idea I was so excited to be able to bring all of my skills together in a new way - co-founding a company from scratch, especially one with such a compelling story. Additionally, as someone who is often driven by creative self-expression, the opportunity to give people an outlet for making something with their own two hands just felt so right.
Our mission is to inspire creativity and connection through the shared experience of baking challah. We hope you find all of those things when you order The Challah Box. We are so excited to be on this journey together!
5% for 5lbs.
Each ingredient used to make challah carries significance. The 5-pound bag of flour we send in our boxes is particularly symbolic because it is the minimum amount of flour required to separate a small piece of dough and say a blessing. We’ve decided to represent this tradition by giving away 5% of our profits to charity. This month, we will be donating to MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger. Check out Mazon.org to learn more.
